Canon EOS R8 Mirrorless Camera 24.2MP | 4K @ 60p
Canon EOS R8 Mirrorless Digital Camera (Body Only)
Â
Full-Frame Power in a Featherweight Package
For hybrid creators, passionate travelers, and enthusiasts looking to make the leap to a full-frame sensor without carrying a heavy, bulky professional body, the Canon EOS R8 is an absolute triumph. It effectively takes the powerful heart of the much more expensive EOS R6 Mark II—including its fantastic 24.2-megapixel sensor, DIGIC X processor, and class-leading autofocus—and packs it into Canon's lightest full-frame mirrorless body to date.
Weighing just 1 pound (461g), it handles like a compact entry-level camera but punches far above its weight class. Whether you are upgrading from a smartphone, moving over from an older APS-C DSLR, or seeking a highly capable "B-cam" for professional video shoots, the R8 delivers stunning image quality and blazing-fast performance.
Why You'll Love This Camera
-
Flagship-Level Autofocus: The R8 features Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, driven by deep-learning AI. This is the exact same incredibly sticky autofocus system found in Canon's high-end professional bodies. It automatically detects and tracks human eyes/faces/bodies, animals (dogs, cats, birds, horses), and vehicles (cars, motorcycles, trains, airplanes) with pinpoint accuracy.
-
The Full-Frame Look: The 24.2MP full-frame sensor provides a massive leap in image quality compared to crop-sensor cameras or smartphones. It allows you to achieve beautifully shallow depth of field (creamy background blur) and delivers exceptionally clean, low-noise files even when shooting in dimly lit environments.
-
Blazing 40 FPS Burst: While it looks like a casual camera, it can shoot like a sports camera. Using the electronic shutter, the R8 can capture high-speed action at a blistering 40 frames per second, ensuring you never miss the peak moment of a jump, a dive, or a bird in flight.
-
Uncropped 4K 60p Video: Video shooters will rejoice. The R8 shoots stunning, uncropped 4K video at up to 60 frames per second. Better yet, that 4K footage is oversampled from 6K, resulting in incredibly sharp and detailed video. It also supports 10-bit Canon Log 3 (C-Log3) for maximum dynamic range and color grading flexibility.
-
Incredibly Lightweight: Weighing only 461 grams (with battery and memory card), it is an absolute joy to carry all day. It's the perfect companion for travel, hiking, or vlogging, fitting easily into a small bag or even a large coat pocket.
-
Pre-Shooting Feature: When enabled in raw burst mode, the camera constantly buffers images upon a half-press of the shutter button, saving the 0.5 seconds of action before you even fully press the button.

Things to Note
To achieve this camera's incredibly compact size and aggressive price point, Canon had to make several strategic compromises. Most notably, the EOS R8 does not have In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS). To get stabilized footage or shoot handheld at slow shutter speeds, you must rely entirely on lenses that have built-in optical IS (indicated by "IS" in the lens name) or use the camera's Digital IS, which applies a slight crop to your video.
Additionally, the R8 uses the much smaller LP-E17 battery. Battery life is notoriously short, especially if you are shooting 4K video or utilizing the 40fps electronic burst. You will absolutely need to purchase and carry multiple spare batteries for a full day of shooting.
Finally, the camera lacks a fully mechanical shutter (it uses an Electronic First-Curtain Shutter) and features a single SD card slot located inside the battery compartment on the bottom of the camera, making it slightly tedious to swap cards when mounted on a tripod.
